Extreme Toy Shopping Contest

I was a kid when the Cabbage Patch doll craze hit. My sister and I (Sidenote: at that point I only had one younger sister- the other two weren't born yet!) both wanted them, but they were very hard to find. My parents tried various stores and everywhere was sold out. Then one day.... and admitedly, I don't know exactly how this transpired... they found out that the Gold Circle Store was getting in a shipment. My parents took us girls and we waited in a huge line outside in the parking lot. I can remember walking across that parking lot- excited and yet worried that there might be too many people and we still might not be able to get those precious dolls.

Each person got a ticket and that allowed you to go inside to the customer service desk, where they were unloading the cartons of Cabbage Patch Dolls. You didn't get to pick the color of hair or anything else.... you took the doll they handed you and you didn't let go of it, or someone else would swoop in and buy it. I wound up with a brown haired doll named "Grace Edie". As I'm sitting here now, I can't even recall my sister's doll, but I know she had one, too. I can picture that parking lot crowd in my head right now- it was such an exciting event for us! :)

Have a toy story of your own to share? Check out this great contest: Write a post about what you’d do (or what your parents did for you) to get that perfect toy into your child’s hands. Post anytime this weekend - today, July 25 through Sunday, July 27. Make sure to link http://www.hasbrotoyevent.com & http://blog.parentbloggers.com somewhere in your post. The grand prize is a pile of toys that's big enough that Santa wouldn't need to shop at all- take a look!

  1. I remember those dolls!!! I never got a real one though. My mom had someone make one for me. :( I was disappointed. Those CP dolls came with a birth certificate and were all the rage.

Laura :) I read your blog...just never posted....
