Bloggers to Pay License Fee

Can you believe THIS?  In Philadelphia, personal bloggers are being forced to pay $300 to the city for a license fee for their "business" license.   I understand paying taxes on any income, but seriously, most personal bloggers only make a few dollars (if that) per year from ads and links.  These aren't professional bloggers or big-names who rake in the ad revenue- one lady said she's made maybe $50 in the last three years online.  This is crazy!!

Crazy Back to School Week Menu Plan

This week is crazy-busy. I'm making a plan, but I can't guarantee that we'll get to all these meals.  I've got one more meal stashed away in the freezer for those short-on-time nights.... and I've also got pizza coupons.  ;)

  • MONDAY:  pork roast- tossed in the oven with potatoes & carrots & whatever spices sound good at the time, tossed salad
  • TUESDAY:  Back-to-School Tacos (Just regular tacos- but we decided last year that this would be our traditional 1st day of school meal!)
  • WEDNESDAY: new recipe: Nony's Chicken Stiry Fry over rice
  • THURSDAY: lasagna (from freezer), garlic bread sticks (from freezer, originally from grocery bakery clearance rack), tossed salad
  • FRIDAY: my crockpot cube steak, mashed potatoes, green beans
  • SATURDAY: homemade pizza -- using whatever toppings we're in the mood for that day & maybe (finally) this new recipe: Pizza Hut Style Breadsticks, salad  *We often do homemade pizza on Saturdays.  If you've read my menu plans before, you know that this bread stick recipe has been on the menu plan for months now, but we never seem to have time to make it! I keep listing it in my menu plan to remind myself to try it.  :)

EASY Target bargains- no complicated deals

http://www.thethriftyhome.com

I know a lot of people don't think they have time for coupons, or they think it's too much of a hassle.  While that can be true, you can also save a lot just by spending a few minutes online before you go to the store. There are plenty of blogs out there that do all the bargain-hunting work for you- Bargain Brianna and Totally Target are among my favorites.

I had a good day at Target yesterday.  Scouting out these deals online and printing the coupons took me less than ten minutes, and was well worth it in my opinion!  In addition to the 30-some glue sticks my kids needed for school ($.25 per 2-pack), I also got some easy deals:

Chef Boyardee Mini Ravioli, 15-Ounce Units (Pack of 24)Chef Boyardee canned pastas:

Schick Hydro 5 Blade RazorUnfortunately, I couldn't find the free post-it notes that others have found.  I'll keep looking, though!

A few other bargains: a much-needed $6.98 clearance dress shirt for my husband, school notebooks for $.15, and a dozen pencils for $.75.

Complicated coupon deals don't work for me.... but simple ones like this do!  Share your own WFMW tip and read others HERE and check out more Penny Pinching Party tips HERE.

Good Reads: Believing in Jesus

Believing in Jesus: A Popular Overview of the Catholic FaithBelieving in Jesus:
A Popular Overview of the Catholic Church
6th Edition Revised (2009)

When I first picked up this book, I kind of had the impression I'd be reading a dry textbook, something akin to trying to read the Catechism cover to cover.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that that wasn't the case.

Believing in Jesus offers insight and explanations for many things that Catholics do and believe.  As a "cradle Catholics", many of us have grown up knowing that the church teaches this or that, but not necessarily understanding why.  This book answers many of those questions.

I particularly enjoyed Chapter 13: Jesus Living in His Members.  It talks about the fact that the church is like the humans who make up the church... sometimes there are flaws and sometimes there are bad choices made by those who are supposed to lead.   The metaphor puts things into perspective in terms of the church not being the perfect institution many expect it to be.
