WFMW: online time= great snail mail

Besides social networking... making friends... learning about other lifestyles... do you know what else happens when you make good use of your time online?   You get fun surprises in the mail!

This box arrived last week:

Seriously, this is the biggest cleaning caddy I've ever seen- easily twice as deep as the one I already owned.  I had no clue what this box was when it arrived, but apparently I won one of the Right At Home prize packs.  That was simple to enter- just click and enter your details.  And they have another giveaway going on right now-- you can enter to win a back to school package!

I love to read.  And at least once a week, FREE books arrive in my mail box, because I've applied to various companies and been accepted to write book reviews.  If this sounds like something you would like to do, I know that both Bethany House and The Catholic Company are accepting applications for new reviewers right now.

I receive coupons and free samples in the mail almost daily.  I only request those that I know we'll use.. not every single offer available out there.  (I used to request anything I heard of, but that just resulted in a lot of mail going straight to the trash.)  Reading blogs like: The Freebie Blogger and Money Saving Mom helps keep me alert to the new offers that are available.

Blogs also alert me to great giveaways.  I've won several over the past few years since I started blogging. In the last few months I've won a gardening package from Simply Serve, some Wonder Hangers from Sarah, and just this week-- an American Girl doll through Blissfully Domestic!  (Shhhh- don't tell my daughter- she will be receiving this for Christmas!)  And I don't enter that many giveaways- maybe only 1/3 of those that I see.

Now, of course, you have to be careful who you give your personal information to, or else you'll wind up with a mailbox full of junk.  I only provide my mailing address to reputable companies, and I opt out of receiving extra catalogs, fliers, etc. when I can.

Finding fun surprises in my mail box definitely works for me!  Head on over to Works for Me Wednesday to share your own tips and read some others!

The Male Factor: Book Tour & Giveaway

Publisher's Summary: Many talented women today risk undermining their careers without realizing it, simply because they don’t understand how they are perceived by their male colleagues and customers.  In What Men really Think, best-selling author Shaunti Feldhahn reveals the inner reality behind men’s views — the unspoken expectations that no man would dare to publicly acknowledge, and no woman would learn from an HR department.

Since I only work part-time, and in a woman-dominated field (nursing home) at that, I was curious as to what I would take away from this book. I found that much of it I already knew... for example, the fact that most men support a woman's choice to work or stay at home, but they are frustrated when a woman can't seem to make up her own mind and the work "team" suffers because she waffles back and forth on her priorities.    Many men find themselves uncertain how to best deal with a woman who wears her emotions on her sleeve at work... but then again, I think many men have that problem outside of the workplace, too!  ;)

If this sounds like a book that you would enjoy, you're in luck!  The kind folks at WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group have provided an extra copy of this book for me to give away to one of my readers.  To enter, just leave a comment telling me about your current job... are you a stay at home mom?  Part time employee?  Full time?   This giveaway will end on January 20th at midnight.

The Male Factor: The Unwritten Rules, Misperceptions, and Secret Beliefs of Men in the Workplace was provided in exchange for my honest review and participation on this book tour by the WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group.

Extreme Toy Shopping Contest

I was a kid when the Cabbage Patch doll craze hit. My sister and I (Sidenote: at that point I only had one younger sister- the other two weren't born yet!) both wanted them, but they were very hard to find. My parents tried various stores and everywhere was sold out. Then one day.... and admitedly, I don't know exactly how this transpired... they found out that the Gold Circle Store was getting in a shipment. My parents took us girls and we waited in a huge line outside in the parking lot. I can remember walking across that parking lot- excited and yet worried that there might be too many people and we still might not be able to get those precious dolls.

Each person got a ticket and that allowed you to go inside to the customer service desk, where they were unloading the cartons of Cabbage Patch Dolls. You didn't get to pick the color of hair or anything else.... you took the doll they handed you and you didn't let go of it, or someone else would swoop in and buy it. I wound up with a brown haired doll named "Grace Edie". As I'm sitting here now, I can't even recall my sister's doll, but I know she had one, too. I can picture that parking lot crowd in my head right now- it was such an exciting event for us! :)

Have a toy story of your own to share? Check out this great contest: Write a post about what you’d do (or what your parents did for you) to get that perfect toy into your child’s hands. Post anytime this weekend - today, July 25 through Sunday, July 27. Make sure to link http://www.hasbrotoyevent.com & http://blog.parentbloggers.com somewhere in your post. The grand prize is a pile of toys that's big enough that Santa wouldn't need to shop at all- take a look!

Are bloggers the most generous people on earth? I just bumped into yet another giveaway carnival- this one is called One World, One Heart, and the giveaways end on Valentine's Day. It seems that almost all of the items up for grabs are handmade. Some are definitely not to my taste, but some are just gorgeous. Stop over there and enter a few, or sign up to give away something on your own blog!

Bloggy Giveaway Carnival~ Winter '08

Bloggy Giveaway Carnival I know you're just here for the free stuff, but I'd love for you to stick around or visit again. This is my place to write about stamping, crafts, prayers, my family, and my journey as I try to simplify my life in 2008. I have two other blogs, also- one is my cooking blog, Too Many Recipes, and the other is my weekly meme for all kinds of paper crafts, Sunday Scrappin. I think that one of the best things about blogging is finding new people with shared interests. Bookmark me and come back sometime when you're not out frantically entering a zillion giveaways! ;)

So, on with the show. I'm giving away a copy of the mystery book "The Crossword Connection" by Nero Blanc. It's a neat book if you enjoy crossword puzzles. The cover says "Solve the puzzles, solve the crime!"

The fine print: To enter, leave me a comment below about the best book you've read lately. I love to read, and I'm always looking for new books that will inspire me or make me laugh. I'll be looking forward to your comments! (*If your comment only says "enter me" or something like that, it won't count as an entry!*) Sorry, but I'm only able to ship within the USA. Also, if you don't have a blog, be sure and leave your email address with your comment. Entries will close Saturday, February 2nd, at 11am.

Have fun this week with the Bloggy Giveaway Carnival- I know I will! :)

Win a free blog design!

I have looked for a long time now for a custom blog designer that does country/primitive designs. I've seen a lot of neat designs, but none of them were really "me"- I want something country, yet colorful and fun. My current blog page contains a header I designed, pasted onto a template I got from Final Sense. (See the very tbottom of this page for credits and links.) It's OK, but this still isn't exactly the color or layout that I'd really like to have.

It looks like I've finally found the right blog designers for me... http://www.sweetnsimpledesign.com/. They had a couple of samples that I really like, including this Country Craft one... although that's not specifically a blog design, it has the general look that I like.

And what's even better- they're giving away two chances for you to win a FREE blog make-over! Check out the contest here... but please don't enter, because I want to win this one myself! (OK, OK, I'm just kidding... go for it!)

Giveaway Winner

Wow-- the Bloggy Giveaway was just as much fun this time as last! I am really amazed at some of the wonderful prizes that bloggers were offering. I keep checking my own email, but so far I haven't won anything. :( Ah well, it was still fun, and I found some great new-to-me blogs to read.

I've drawn my winner for the book Scrapbooking Roads and a few other scrapping goodies, and the winner is.... Lissete! Congratulations, and thanks to everyone else for all the great comments.
It seems that there are a lot of scrapping bloggers! And on that note, I WILL be starting the Sunday Scrappin' meme I'd mentioned earlier-- click here to see the new site! I'm working on the button graphic this afternoon while DS naps, and if he sleeps long enough (LOL) I might just get the meme up and running today! If not, be sure to bookmark me and come back soon! :)

UPDATED TO ADD: The new meme site is up and running!

Fall, Y'all! Bloggy Giveaway

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket It's Bloggy Giveaway time again! What fun! :)

This time I'll be giving away a scrapbooking package... a brand-new copy of the book Scrapbooking Roads (Confession- I actually won this myself recently, but since I won't be doing any travel any time soon, I'd rather send the book on to bless another scrapbooker!) I'll also throw in some other scrapbooking goodies.

*To enter, you must leave a comment below about scrapbooking-- telling me what scrapbooking project you are currently working on, your favorite supplies, how you find time to scrap, whatever. **Comments that just say "enter me", "sounds good", or the like don't count!** Also, be sure that your comment links back to your blog or email address so I can contact you if you win.

The fine print: This contest is only open to US residents. All entries must be posted by 10am Eastern Time, Sunday, November 4th. I'll draw a winner later that day.

Also... I'm thinking of starting a Sunday meme about Scrapbooking-- let me know below if you'd be interested in participating!

October was Breast Cancer Awareness month! Have you done your breast self-exam lately?

I know you're running off to enter more contests, but I'd love for you to stick around and check out the rest of my blog! :)

Show me the money....

Ok, this one's just too good to be true, right? Yet, I've seen it on several blogs and I feel strangely compelled to participate:

Over at
Ashwin’s blog
, you will find one crazy blog owner!! You can win $2500!! To enter just copy this text and paste it in your blog!! But hurry, this competition will not last long! So get posting!

UPDATED 8/29: Apparently, this WAS too good to be true... the internet is a-buzz with this scam. I'll post about it later, but for now, I'm entering Contest Blogger's "revenge" contest, which entails changing my link to Ashwin's site and making it link to Contest Blogger. That will help make the scam artist lose his rankings on sites such as Google and Technorati, which is apparently what he was after. Grrrrr.....

Bloggy Giveaway Winners

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to post my winners last night. I did, however, hold my drawings and notify each of them.

Thanks to all who participated! I was amazed at how many giveaways there were... and I found some great new-to-me blogs along the way. What fun!

And... if you're sad because all the great give-aways are over, don't despair... be sure to check out THIS CONTEST on 5 Minutes for Mom.... they're giving away a 37" LCD Flat-Panel HDTV courtesy of Best Buy. Their prizes just seem to keep getting bigger and bigger, don't they? :)
